How to reduce your fleet loss ratio with connected cameras
Will cameras bring my premium down? They can, but the kit does not do it on its own. This talk sets out what moves a loss ratio and where the work sits.

What you will learn
What a loss ratio is, and why insurers read it as your risk
Why data without action does not lower a premium
How multi-camera footage stops non-fault and fraudulent claims
Why closing a claim fast matters as much as avoiding one
Buying cameras is the start, not the saving
The question fleet operators ask most is whether cameras or telematics will bring their premium down. The honest answer is that they can, but the fleet has to use the data. Fitting the kit does not change the number on its own.
Loss ratio is what the insurer pays out on your claims divided by what you pay in premium. There is no industry standard for a good one, but the higher it sits, the weaker your position at renewal, with your current insurer or on the open market.
Insurers do not want to see that you bought cameras. They want to see a plan for using them, and progress against it.
Three levers that move a loss ratio
Most fleets focus on the first. The other two are where a lot of the money sits.
- 01
Prevent: fewer collisions
Three behaviours drive most bad driving: speed for the conditions, distraction and fatigue. Get those under control, and start with your riskiest drivers rather than everyone. Multi-camera views also help drivers see around the vehicle, which cuts the low-speed knocks.
- 02
Protect: no blame, no claim
Non-fault side-swipes, staged collisions and false damage allegations land on your record unless you can show what happened. Footage from around the vehicle lets you challenge them before they cost you.
- 03
Accelerate: close claims quickly
Claims that drag on build hire, storage and legal costs, whoever was at fault. Report incidents fast and get footage to your insurer early, so they control the claim before the costs build.
Frequently asked questions
Will cameras reduce my fleet insurance premium?
They can, but not on their own. Insurers respond to a lower loss ratio and a fleet that can show a plan for using its data. Cameras give you the evidence and the visibility; the reduction comes from acting on them.
What is a good fleet loss ratio?
There is no published industry standard. The lower it is, the more insurers will want your business and the stronger your position at renewal. Loss ratio shows how a premium performed; how far it sits from where insurers are comfortable decides what happens next.
Do I need Geotab to use MANTIS cameras?
No. MANTIS works through telematics partners, so you add MANTIS cameras through the provider you already use. In the UK and Ireland, MANTIS integrates with Webfleet and Geotab.
