LF&E Refrigerated Transport moves temperature-controlled healthcare logistics: medications for pharmaceutical manufacturers, healthcare professionals and patients. The business has doubled its delivery drops since 2022 and runs 312 vehicles.

The problem

LF&E had taken several substantial insurance losses at one depot and could not establish why.

Ricky Clay, Fleet Manager at LF&E, wanted evidence rather than accounts: something that would settle an accident investigation, protect a driver who had done nothing wrong, and discourage the driving that was producing the losses.

What was fitted

MANTIS went in during early 2022 and expanded through subsequent deployments to 312 vehicles by 2024.

What decided it was the RECON platform being usable by the people who would actually use it, the hardware being tamper-resistant and holding up, and the system integrating with telematics rather than sitting beside it.

What changed

**Twelve months with no incidents** at the depot that had been the problem.

**Driver behaviour.** Real-time alerts mean intervention happens on the day rather than at a quarterly review.

**Liability.** Footage has moved a number of claims from fault to non-fault, which is what actually reduces a premium. First Notification of Loss gets the report out while the facts are still fresh.

**Fuel and maintenance.** Smoother driving shows up in both before it shows up anywhere else.

**Less reactive training.** Correcting a habit when it appears removes the need for the remedial course later.

What LF&E say

“MANTIS has been an invaluable tool in managing our fleet, bringing about significant improvements in both safety and efficiency. One of the most notable benefits has been the improvement in driving behaviour across our depots, and the fact we have had zero incidents reported in the first 12 months since full implementation. With real-time feedback and alerts from the mantis live system, drivers are more conscious of their actions, leading to safer and more responsible driving. This has not only enhanced overall fleet safety but has also had a direct impact on our insurance claims and operational costs. Thanks to the clear, objective video evidence provided by MANTIS’s high-definition cameras and automated evidence collection, we’ve seen a positive change in liability for insurance claims, reducing the risk of false claims and lowering our premiums. The system’s compliance with the Direct Vision Standard has also been a significant advantage. Overall, MANTIS has made fleet management more streamlined, safer, and cost-effective.”
